MSHA RECOGNIZES VIVID’S PART 48 ONLINE TRAINING AS ‘OFFICIAL’
MSHA has determined that online training is an acceptable delivery method for Part 48 if the provider’s training plan has been approved by MSHA. Vivid has one of the only MSHA-approved Part 48 training plans that allows for online certification. Vivid’s approved training plan.
VIVID’S INSTRUCTORS ARE MSHA CERTIFIED
Vivid’s instructors are MSHA-certified and have provided online MSHA training to more than 500 companies since 2012.
YOU WILL RECEIVE A signed 5000-23 FORM
Upon successful completion of all the components of the Part 48 New Miner and Refresher courses, each participant receives a 5000-23 form signed by the certified MSHA instructor via email, as a printable PDF. PDF certificates are an acceptable format, recognized by MSHA, and should be saved and safeguarded as official training documentation.
SITE SPECIFIC TRAINING IS STILL REQUIRED
Keep in mind that by law, MSHA course participants must take site-specific training when visiting a mine site for the first time, and should then receive a separate certificate of completion issued by the site operating entity.
PART 48 new miner TRAINING may BE TAKEN IN A GROUP SETTING
We recommend, if possible, that people participate independently to maximize their experience. When independent participation is not possible, Part 48 New Miner training may be taken in a group setting. Participants are allowed to share webcams only if each individual is visible to the instructor.
Part 48 Refresher training must be done individually, also on a webcam.
MSHA TRAINING PLANS and DISTRICTS
While Vivid’s MSHA training plan was originally approved for the Western District, once a training plan has been approved for one district it is considered by MSHA as approved for use in all districts. Note that each mine site does have the right not to recognize any training program, regardless of the delivery method.
Certain states that produce coal such as West Virginia and Kentucky have specific standards that require training be completed in-state. Please consult with one of Vivid’s instructors if you will be visiting a coal site in either of these states.
TRAINING IS OFFERED EVERY WEEK
New Miner training is offered at least once every Tuesday-Thursday 8:00AM - 4:30PM CST. Refresher training is offered daily Monday-Friday 9:00AM - 6:00PM CST. An instructor must be present during all training hours. If you have a need for a New Miner course specifically on a weekend for a minimum of 7 participants, please contact us.

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT DURING THIS VIRTUAL LIVE TRAINING?
All Part 48 New Miner participants will connect to a virtual classroom with a webcam and microphone where each participant will be able to see the instructor and all the other participants in real time. Each participant will introduce themselves to the group and participate in the discussions verbally and via chat (as directed by the instructor) throughout the training.
Training is facilitated by an MSHA-certified instructor with years of experience in the mining industry. The 3-day course will consist of instructor-led training, videos, online training and group discussions. At specific times, participants will be directed to complete online training lessons while still on the webcam. A moderator will be available during the training for questions and assistance.

- On time attendance, each day
- Attentive, active participation in all parts of the 3-day course
- Active webcam feed (except during breaks)

In order to make sure everyone may connect successfully; each participant must engage in a “Systems Test” on the Monday or Friday prior to the first day of training.
